TURKEY AND ANTALYA

Turkey has been a meeting place for many diverse civilizations and cultures throughout history, from prehistoric times to the classical Greco-Roman period until the emergence of modern Turkish republic.

Turkey 's long coastal borders with the Mediterranean, Aegean and Black Seas and the bridges between Asia and Europe , make her the center of major commercial and migration routes.

Her rich geographical structure, with mountainous areas, fertile plains, and high-altitude plateaus makes Turkey 's climate varied, and provides a colorful and rich diversity of urban settlements, tourist resorts, economic activities, as well as fauna and flora.

Turkey is separated into seven major distinct geographic regions according to climate, natural plantation and distribution of the agricultural activities.

ABOUT ANTALYA

Antalya is a city of great historical and archeological interest, from Roman and Hellenic era to Seljukid and Ottoman periods. The city of Antalya stretches along the bay bearing its name, and is surrounded by fertile valleys with the snow-capped Taurus mountains rising in the background. Several streams emerging from the Taurus mountains water the fertile plains and end up cascading down the steep coastal cliffs in impressive waterfalls.

The coastline has miles of scenic beaches, sandy in places, with steep cliffs at others, and in some places with lush forests reaching the sea. The Taurus mountains rising against the blue backdrop of the sky, canyons, valleys, waterfalls, undersea and mountain caves make this a region of wonders for divers (sky and sea), surfers, campers, yachtsmen…..

Antalya has a very rich flora, including many types of endemic plants found along the coastal regions, citrus groves, typical Mediterranean maquis at the foothills, and oak and pine forests.

Visitors to Antalya are struck by the size attained by some plants, especially certain succulents and different species of cactus. The extensive cotton and sesame plantations, and citrus and banana groves in the plains have a beauty of their own.

In Antalya the four seasons only appear on the calendar, as there is no real winter here, so much so that when in 1985 snow fell for the first time in 60 years, it made front-page news.
